Reflections on Decision...



We are all subject to making decisions. At every moment, we are faced with paths of which only one will be taken.

Until a decision takes shape, multiple forces come into play, impulses, repetitions, automatisms, interests, pressures. All of them sustain intentions, often wrapped in layers of narratives that may not correspond, and even less respond, to what is actually at stake.

To decide implies also listening to what has not been considered.

Decisions require the recognition that they bear upon relationships and territories, altering rhythms, shifting trajectories, and can both build or harm, sustain or rupture.

To decide is to leave your signature engraved in a movement that will reach and cross the lives of others who did not take part in the choice, but who will carry its consequences. (c) 2026 Vilma Machado
